  1. I suggest catching up on Mrs. Doubtfire (a movie I very much enjoyed when I first viewed it, but found so very much more poignant after my divorce), and Saving Private Ryan, (even if you just watch the opening 30 minutes or so… it’s intense, but provides a valuable perspective, imo).

  2. Of the ones you have not seen, I can attest that the following are not completely suckful (as in, I’d watch them again and with you):

    40. Airport (1970) -- because it was OMG funny! Esp the co-pilot.
    58. Finding Nemo (2003) -- cute *and* schmalzee. With fish. And good one liners. Pixar; what more do you need?
    73. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) -- Early Jack Nicholsen and Danny DeVito. One of my top favorite “movies about psych patients”. The book is creepier. I recommend the book, too.
    77. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) -- Robin Williams as a crossdresser. Part of his “finding himself” period as an actor (boo, hiss), but certainly the cream of the crop of his movies of that era (yay, w00t).
    86. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) -- IMO, better than the first one.
    94. Saving Private Ryan (1998) -- pretty dark, and lots of people die, so definatley be in the mood for a Full Metal Jacket kind of night; Tom Hanks puts in a seriously good bit of acting

Those would be my suggestions. I also recall that in their day, Jaws, The Exorcist, American Graffitti, The Bell’s of St Mary’s, and Towering Inferno were also quite good, tho I haven’t seen any of them recently enough to recommend any of them. *hugs* -H…

    • Hm….Airport/Airplane…not the same movies. Scratch what I said about Airport. Never seen it before in my life. The reviews seem positive, tho. Ah well, -H…

  3. I quite liked “the Poseidon adventure”. though you’ve got to be in a “make things go boom” kind of frame of mind. It’s so … dunno. Stuck between frightening and tacky.

  4. I say skip Saving Private Ryan. The first 20 minutes are really intense and moving. Then 5 guys hold off the entire German Army. It got very action movie-y for my tastes.

I say see American Graffiti and Finding Nemo.

  5. American Graffiti, The Sixth Sense, The Ten Commandments (which is good, campy fun).

P.S.- I’ve seen lots of memes like this and I’m just curious, how does one highlight lines in a long list like this? I know it’s gotta be some HTML code thingie, but I don’t know how.

    • Just put a <b> at the start of each line and a </b> at the end of each line you want to bold.

If you want to bold several lines in a row, you can cheat by putting the <b> at the start of the first line and the </b> at the end of the last line in the series you want to bolden.

  6. Oh, my.

I’ve seen all of these but “Finding Nemo.” (Most of the pre-1960 ones on TV, courtesy of the late-night movies that used to be a staple of almost every channel that didn’t air The Tonight Show when I was growing up and in college).

You should see The Sixth Sense. Wonderful film, especially if you haven’t read enough about it to be spoiled.

  7. Airport (based on the Arthur Hailey novel), Finding Nemo, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest (and I second the recommendation of the novel).

  8. I did? I haven’t posted that one yet.

  9. I’ve seen quite a few of those you haven’t here and there. IMHO the Sixth Sense and Terminator 2 are the best of that bunch.
Both silly scifi movies with lots of cool effects but with a real moral dilemma at the heart of the story.

  10. Hmm, I read “most popular”, contrasted it with “highest grossing” and interpreted the latter as “most grossing out” movies <g>…
