30 Day Song Challenge – Day 21 – A Song With A Person’s Name In It

Today’s challenge invites us to share a song with someone’s name in the title. Obviously lots to choose from, but this song is one I’ve loved since I first bought the album it’s own, the year it came out, and which I cover form time to time.

Here’s Concrete Blonde, with “Caroline”

My favorite CB song. It reminds me of, well, so many people I have known.

Not my song, but I’ll see your Caroline:

It’s funny: my first thought was an Elvis Costello song, but even though a name is the most notable lyric in the chorus, it’s not the title. So I’ll choose this one: Elvis covering someone else’s song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HVcfPzoXWnY

I was given that album by multiple folks because of the other one-word name song. 🙂

From an underrated album: Turnstiles. (His 3rd of 4th, depending on whether you count the initial release of CSH.) I love the use (and sound) of the [Fender] Rhodes electric piano here, and Richie Cannata’s soprano sax.

Here’s one that I’m fairly sure you (Rob) love as much as I do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9bmy3eRopU

One of my favorites for it’s subtlety:

This one goes back to 1974 or ’75. This band has its roots in Columbus and Cincinnati.

The first one that popped into my mind -- and a great song: https://youtu.be/lIYjz5ne7R4

      ! This is the song I was referring to in my comment. I thought the name of this song was My Aim Is True, but it turns out that’s just the name of the album. Live and learn. Thanks Chris. :{)}

      Paul: I did wonder. 🙂

In your defence, although the album listed the title as “Alison”, a lot of DJs used to refer to it as “Alison (My Aim Is True)”

    “Weird Al” Yankovic -- Melanie
From the wierd Al song “Melanie” from the album even worse… this is a fan film

Does “Josephine” or ” Ragtime Cowboy Joe” count?.

I really love that arrangement. The original is full of the fiery intensity of youth, and full of longing and urgent potential. The acoustic version is a reflection of a sadder, wiser man, looking back with a wistful ache. Masterful.

    I have two from Gordon Lightfoot… https://youtu.be/h5Xk6DsGvt8.

I’ll raise you another Caroline! (With Elton John on background vocals.) 🙂
