Songs I Won’t Be Writing

So, eloren and I were discussing children’s books over lunch.

eloren: We’ve got Goodnight Moon, and Pat The Bunny, and The Runaway Bunny
autographedcat: You need to get Harold And The Purple Crayon.
eloren: I don’t know that one.
autographedcat: Oh, it’s marvelous. I also like The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes.
eloren: Pretty soon, I guess I’ll have to get Everybody Poops.
autographedcat‘s brain: whirrrrrr-click You know, that scans to “Everybody Hurts” by REM.
autographedcat: (outloud) No! No, I will not! No. (pause) No!
eloren: (curiously) Are you ok?

Something to Ponder

  1. don’t forget the chocolate touch

  2. *laugh!!!*
Hee. Thank you for sharing 🙂 It’s such a hardship to be a filker, isn’t it? 😉

  3. When Patrick Stewart was on the Rosie O’Donnell show, she asked him if he’d read her son’s favorite book on the air. He agreed, and she handed him Everyone Poops. He didn’t even blink, just took the book and started reading in this grand Shakespearean style.

It’s got to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Wish I’d taped it.

  4. I think I started doing that one, actually.

Thankfully, I was..urmm…a bit stopped up during it and never got very far.

  5. You know you want to.

I love Harold And The Purple Crayon.

  6. The same folks who publish Everybody Poops also publish The Gas We Pass, which scans to “The Tide is High” by Blondie.

  7. First, you’re sick. I like that about you, but…your sick.

Second, I also like and recommend “Guess How Much I Love You” (Sam McBratney, Anita Jeram), “The Biggest Bed in the World” (Lindsay Camp, Jonathan Langley), “No Matter What” (Debi Gliori), any of the Carter “Bug” pop-up books, and the latest Alice in Wonderland Pop-up book (because it just rocks and is just that cool). And my sister’s favorite to read to her kids is “Love You Forever” (Robert N. Munsch, Sheila McGraw). Oh, and Shel Silverstien’s…anything really, of his kids stuff, but especially Hug O War. And Torten’s Christmas Secret (but it’s an antique). -H…

    • Oh lord. I can’t read “Love You Forever” without bawling.

      • You don’t think it’s a little bit creepy. Especially the part where the mother brings a ladder over to her adult son’s house, and climbs into his bedroom window, and rocks the fully grown son?

I’d find it creepy if my mother used a ladder to break into my bedroom.

        • Oh, yeah, in real life it would be.

But I still can’t read it w/o bawling.

That and “Mama, Do You Love Me”

  8. Everybody Poops is a fun book.

Two others worth noting: (1) On the Day You Were Born by Debra Frasier, a terrific huggy-feely tree-hugger book (hey, it works for THIS tree-hugger! 🙂 and (2) Uh-Oh, Gotta Go! by Bob McGrath (of Sesame Street), a potty-training book. I especially like the page/line: “Sanju raps to the potty beat.” 😀

  9. I LOVE The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes! I thought I was the only person in the universe who knew that book, so I’m delighted to find another bunny-lover!

    • No. The story is a bit haunting, and stuck with me since I was a child. On a recent visit back to visit my mom, I found my old copy of it, and brought it back with me. I re-read it and found that I still love it.

  10. Incidentally Scholastic Videos has made really good DvDs of several of their books. These are much nicer than a lot of standard kid-fare and reinforce the book reading. (should not replace books!) One of our favorites is the Harold and the Purple Crayon DvD. It’s fun to watch Harold drawing his world.

Don’t get me started on Children’s Books. Hee.

  11. could be worse…. i read that list of favorite songs from movies meme after reading this…. and thought of ‘some day my poop will come’. gah!
