Not my cup of tea…

So this morning, having finished my first cup of tea and still feeling somewhat hung over, I shuffled into the kitchen for a second. There’s a ritual to this, more mundane than the Japanese ceremony variety, but a ritual none the less. Put the kettle on to boil, fetch a teabag from the PG Tips box and drop it into the cup. Pour the boiling water into the cup and let it steep for a few minutes. Take the cup over to the counter, two teaspoons. Milk. Start to walk back to my desk, sip…..

Choke.

I really don’t think that hot salted tea is going to be a taste sensation that is sweeping the country anytime soon. Good grief, I was really out of it this morning.

  1. Add some yak’s butter?

  2. I remember my Grandmother doing much the same. Except it was the whole sugar-bowl. Us kids got told off for complaining that our cereal tasted bad, until one of the grownups tasted what was in their drink…

    • Heh. I really don’t see where I could have gotten mixed up. The sugar is in a big quart-sized canister. The kosher salt is in a small glass bowl with a lid. They aren’t remotely similar.

  3. I. Should. Not. Laugh. ….
    (*gigglegiggle*)

Poor you. *BIGHUGS* (aren’t you glad I didn’t use a big font for that one? ;-)) (looking forward to seeing you guys at OVFF. It’s been too long.)

  4. I should tell you about the time I made cookies at Kate’s house… Salted chocolate chip cookies…

  5. I’ve had salted lemonade (and salted limeade)… and salted plum soda, but never salted tea that I remember, no.

Though hot salted water is good for gargling with if you’ve got a sore throat. (well, theoretically, I always had trouble with it, so I’d make boullion instead and gargle with that.)

Okay, so I also wanted to comment because this icon will probably never be more appropriate.

  6. I did this once, in a glass of iced tea. At the Davis Bros. cafeteria on I-20 on my way through Atlanta with a childhood friend and her family for a summer vacation trip. I have never done it again. Beyond vile.

  7. OUCH! Oh… I felt it.

Incidentally, my boss refers to my morning latte-making as, ‘That elaborate ritual of yours’

  8. *giggle* That doesn’t sound fun. It reminds me of the time I was making brownies and started pouring them into the pan when I went “why are these so pale?” Yeah, I’d forgotten to add cocoa…

  9. Maybe you could gargle it for a sore throat?

Hmm. I need some green tea.

  10. Ewwwwwww.
    Just …
    ewwww.
    *hugs*

  11. Oh, did that bring out a truly dusty memory, in the cafeteria from my college days! A friend (?) put salt in my cup of coffee while I went back on line to get something else. Pee-eeew!

    Ann O.

  12. When I was too young to notice the consistency difference (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it) I poured vinegar on my pancakes….
