The Soundtrack to the Movie Of your Life

Meme from smallship1

If Your Life was a Movie, What Would the Soundtrack Be?
So, here’s how it works:
1. Open your iTunes library
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool…

This is going to be one weird movie. I’ll leave it to the comments to figure out how these songs are appropriate. 🙂

Opening Credits: Rolling Stones – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction

When i’m ridin’ round the world
And i’m doin’ this and i’m signing that
And i’m tryin’ to make some girl

Waking Up: The Church – Pharaoh

Is there anybody there
I could swear I’m not alone
Show your faces if you dare

First Day At School: Green Day – Church On Sunday

I’m not getting any younger as long
As you don’t get any older
I’m not going to state that yesterday never was

Falling in Love: Chris Rea – It’s All Gone

Ah there are dreams out on that ocean
There are storms on every sea…
..If you choose to go

Breaking Up: Mel Torme – The Glory Of Love

You’ve got to win a little, lose a little,
Yes, and always have the blues a little.
That’s the story of – that’s the glory of love.

Prom: Squirrel Nut Zippers – Danny Diamond

She had the strut, she had the lines
To make a mans heart go round about…

Life is Good: Joni Mitchell – Free Man in Paris

I deal in dreamers and telephone screamers
Lately I wonder what I do it for
If l had my way I’d just walk through those doors
And wander down the Champs Elysees

Mental Breakdown: June Tabor – Happed In Mist

But Truth and Honours henchmen found me
Leaving here
A madman’s rave and cowards grave
For the volunteer.

Driving: Motörhead – Iron Fist

Dark night nothing to see
Invisible hand in front of me
Scared to death there’s someone near
Scared to move but you can’t stay here

Flashback: Steve Macdonald – John Barleycorn

They let him lie for a very long time
Till the rains from heaven did fall
And little Sir John sprung up his head
And so amazed them all

Getting Back Together: Visage – Fade To Grey

Sent la pluie comme un été Anglais
Entends les notes d’une chanson lointaine
Sortant de derriere d’un poster
Espérant que la vie ne fut aussi longue

Wedding: New Model Army – Brave New World

We are not young and beautiful, we are not rich and bold
And we are not your people who bought the dreams you sold
And we hate your smiling faces and we hate what you have done
We hate your patronising and we hate your cold blue eyes

Paying the Dues: The Stone Roses – How Do You Sleep

So raise your glasses, heres a toast to wasted lives
May all their ghosts come back to haunt you
And tell you how they died

The Night Before The War: Me First And The Gimme Gimmes – Nothing Compares To You

It’s been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away

Final Battle: Warren Zevon – They Moved The Moon

They moved the moon while I looked down
When I looked away they changed the stars around
I’m so confused don’t know what to do
Don’t know which way to turn, I was counting on you

Moment of Triumph: Buffalo Tom – Late at Night

If i could hold them in my hand
I’d make them understand
I’m not a haunted mind
I’m not a thoughtless kind

Death Scene: Genesis – The Carpet Crawlers

Theres only one direction in the faces that I see;
Its upward to the ceiling, where the chambers said to be.
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree.
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they’re free.

Funeral Song: Jethro Tull – A Small Cigar

I know my clothes seem shabby
And don’t fit this Hampstead soiree
Where unread copies of Rolling Stone
Well-thumbed Playboys
Decorate the hi-fi stereo record shelves

End credits: Cat Stevens – The First Cut Is the Deepest

I would have given you all of my heart
But theres someone who’s torn it apart
And shes taking almost all that Ive got
But if you want, Ill try to love again
Baby Ill try to love again but I know

  1. iTunes …

… stopped working on my main PC ages ago … don’t know why (actually I do, I think it was when I moved the iTunes music folder from one drive to another, ever since then it’s complained it can’t find it, even when I moved it back)

    • Re: iTunes …

Well, you don’t *have* to use iTunes — any mp3 program that lets you shuffle through the library will do. 🙂

You can probably set where the library is in the options, FWIW.

      • True but …

… how do I set the options when the fershugganah programme won’t start? It starts to start and then throws up an error message saying something like “iTunes folder locked or not found” and then when I click “OK” it closes down again.

      • Other MP3 programmes

I don’t run an MP3 library on any of my machines. I have many gigabytes of MP3s on several external hard disks and many DVD+Rs, and I stick them on memory cards that get played in my mobile phone. The mobile phone doesn’t (to the best of my knowledge) have a “random” and even if it did, it would only be picking from the albums that I last put on a memory card.

Oh, wait, this phone does have a shuffle mode (doh!), but the memory card in there at the moment was filled by the daughter of a co-worker (I bought the card off him and he left the albums on there, erm, accidentally!) So here’s the answers, and some of them are really excellent (other songs I’ve never heard before).

        Opening Credits: Timor -- Shakira
Waking Up: Eternal -- I wanna be the only one
First Day At School: Pussy Cat Dolls featuring Busta -- Don’t Cha
Falling in Love: Public Image Ltd -- Public Image
Breaking Up: Various Artists -- Jilted John
Prom: Iggy Pop -- Lust for Life
Life is Good: Simple Minds -- Don’t you forget about me
Mental Breakdown: Martina McBride -- Independence Day
Driving: Five -- Keep on Movin
Flashback: Modern Romance -- Best years of our lives
Getting Back Together: Elton John -- Electricity
Wedding: The Bluebells -- Young at heart
Paying the Dues: Daniel Powter -- Bad Day
The Night Before The War: Scissor Sisters -- Better day
Final Battle: Katie Melua -- Nine Million Bicycles
Moment of Triumph: Bow Wow Wow -- C30, C60, C90 On
Death Scene: Heaven 17 -- Temptation
Funeral Song: Stranglers -- Get a grip (on yourself)
End credits: Mattafix -- Big City Life

  2. I don’t have enough music stored electronically to do this, but if my tape/CD library were all attached to the computer, it would be a horribly tragic movie. Folk songs, y’see. There are so many folk songs involving death and destruction.
